In 2015 Councillors from Bolton’s Crompton Ward resolved to promote the history of their ward highlighting its rich heritage through a series of guided walks. The initiative was developed with support from local community groups, schools, faith establishments and local residents, who were all invited to contribute experiences and memories of life within their ward.
In 2017 they commissioned Suzanne Hindle, a ‘Heritage Facilitator’, to explore routes through the area and to guide ramblers along the trails that she had mapped out. Bolton Documentary Photography were asked to contribute photographs to illustrate the leaflets for these local history walks, as well as for the website where it is possible to book tickets to accompany Suzanne on her walks.
The project culminated in a Public Exhibition at Bolton Town Hall throughout December 2017 launching the Crompton Walks. The project was funded by Halliwell UCAN Centre.
The below is a small selection from our project.
